CHAPTER 16
KELLY THREW HER CAR into park outside of Livâs Lattes and shut off the ignition. Could she really do this? She stared at the door and then glanced around the blacktopped bit of land. Dylanâs truck was already on the far end, parked in the shade of a large maple tree.
When sheâd rolled out of bed at just before five this morning, Dylan had invited her to join him for coffee. âItâll be fun. Some of the friends actually manage to show up midweek,â heâd said.
Kelly had accepted without a second thought. And a part of her was glad that she had. Already she missed him, and it had only been a couple hours since sheâd slinked back into her house after spending the night wrapped in his arms. They hadnât slept much, so the promised jolt of caffeine had sounded absolutely gloriousâmore so now than even when heâd first suggested that she stop by after she got AJ off to school.
But the other part of her dreaded going inside the coffee shop. Kelly knew sheâd feel awkward facing Jesse. He certainly hadnât been welcoming last weekend while sheâd been chatting with Lacey, Brynn, and Olivia. And Kelly could hardly blame Jesse. He and Dylan had always been the best of friends, and he obviously didnât care for the fact that sheâd withheld the truth from Dylan all these years.
But Dylan had forgiven her, and that was all that mattered.
With that knowledge, she climbed out of the car, steeled her spine, and marched into the coffee shop. The aroma alone was enough to give her an energy boostârich, strong coffee. Immediately, her eyes found the corner booth where the group of friends had congregated. Olivia jumped up and waved, making her way behind the counter at the same time Dylan rose and came to Kellyâs side. He kissed her, straight out, not worried that anyone else was in the restaurant. Knowing Dylan, he was probably just sending a message to those who might comment on her presence today.
When he was done thoroughly ravaging her mouth, he lifted his head slightly, gazing into her eyes. It was a hungry look that he gave her, and it made her wish they were back at his place rather than in public. Dylan softly groaned, and his voice came out gravelly when he said, âTell Olivia what youâd like.â
Olivia was washing her hands at the sink behind the counter, obviously taking her time so she didnât have to watch them make out in front of her. âIâll have a mediumâno make that a largeâcup of whatever youâve just brewed.â
Dylan bent his head, speaking near her ear. âLarge? Hmm, are you tired?â His breath puffed out and tickled against her neck.
âYou know I am,â she said in a whisper. But he only laughed at her and nibbled on the flesh right under her ear. âDylan, please.â
âIâve got a pot of Brazilian Dark that just finished,â Olivia said as she pulled a large to-go cup off the stack and waited for confirmation on the order.
